General Information
Arrival
Your support astronomer will make sure you have:
- an account on the public machines
- his/her contact information (phone numbers, office number)
- combinations for the vehicle lock box and the various buildings at Hale Pohaku. (http://www.jach.hawaii.edu/admin/private/Policies/HPCombinations.html Note: this page is password protected and only JAC staff can access it. )
- electronic key for long-term visitors of the JAC building in Hilo
If you plan to arrive out of hours, you should contact your support
astronomer in advance for instructions on how to get to the JAC and get
the keys to your car.
Forms
Observers should, if possible, leave signed paperwork (Medical alert disclaimer form, TBD) with Reception.
If this is not possible then in extremis it is acceptable to fax down
from the summit.
Information for visitors
All visitors entering JAC buildings, grounds, or
facilities
must comply with applicable health and safety policies and procedures.
Visiting observers are
issued a standard
packet of information
whose
contents
include the following safety related information:
- Registration on arrival
- Use of JAC Vehicles
- JAC Policy on Stays at
High Altitude
- Operating Instructions
for JAC Vehicles
- Medical Alert Waiver
- Red and yellow emergency
cards
Food at Hale Pohaku:
Please
inform your Support Scientist of any special dietary requirements or
food allergies you might have (even if you have specified them in the
Accommodation Request Form). As a precaution, make sure that you remind
the cooks about your requirements/allergies BEFORE you pick up your
food.
WORKSHOPS:
Stay out of
the mechanical workshops at JCMT, UKIRT, and JAC Hilo office unless you
are accompanied by a JAC staff member. If you need to enter the
mechanical workshops, your JAC staff contact will advise on the proper
safety procedures.
