OVERRIDES AND LONG-TERM PROPOSALS

Overrides: Policy Statement

June 9th, 2010: - Please note that, for the forseeable future (including semester 10B), overrides and existing long-term projects remain part of the UKIRT schedule.  Observers should therefore execute overrides when asked to do so.

PATT-allocated Overrides are mandatory for PATT observers. UH and Japanese observers cannot formally be overridden, and the PI of a PATT-allocated programme should contact those observers directly if they wish to request observations. The observer in that case should feel no pressure to carry out the override, though any data will of course be greatly appreciated.

In the event that more than one override, or more than two hours, or both, are requested for a given night, and weather conditions are good enough for the Observer's Programme, the observer should contact the Scheduler or Head of Operations before carrying out any observations on the override programme(s).

Target-of-opportunity observations may be requested on an informal basis, as described in the "Targets of Opportunity" section (on the UKIRT sidebar).
