| and assume the background limit
is reached; recent major improvements in array performance have yet
to be incorporated in the observation planning applet.
Imaging
Filters
Thirteen filters are available, both broad and narrow band. Table
2 lists those expected to be available in 01B.
Sensitivity
For imaging of a point source at 10.5 microns (0.21 arcsec pixels)
using the broad band 10.5-micron filter, the 1 sigma 1 minute sensitivity
is 3 mJy. Please refer to the observation planning applet for more
detailed information and predicted sensitivities.
Applying for Michelle time
Its not possible to announce a definitive observing schedule
for Michelle at present. However, assuming that commissioning goes
to plan, we expect that service-type observing proposals will be
executed in the August-September period in 2001, although commissioning
needs are likely to dictate which proposals are attempted. 20-micron
spectroscopy may be restricted depending on the status of the Q
grating. A call for service proposals will be announced in the early
summer by the UKIRT.
At press time, we expect that at least the last three months of
semester 01B will be available for full PATT observing (in shared-risks
mode), applications for which should be made in the normal manner
via this link.
The deadline for
|
these applications is March
31st. Michelle will also be available for service observing during
this period.
Full PATT proposals are invited for the entire semester; if a highly-rated
proposal cannot be scheduled in its optimal slot then attempts will
be made to allocate half nights later in the semester. Depending
on delivery date, Michelle will remain on the telescope into the
spring or summer of 2002.
Please contact Tom Kerr
or Andy Adamson
if you have any questions about Michelle and its availability at
the UKIRT.
